Formula

How GST is calculated

Gold Ledger uses the taxable amount and the GST percentage you enter. The calculator then shows the tax separately and the resulting total.

GST amount

GST = Taxable amount × GST rate ÷ 100

Total including GST

Total = Taxable amount + GST

Worked example

₹1 lakh at 3%

Taxable amount₹1,00,000
GST at 3%₹3,000
Total₹1,03,000

This example assumes ₹1,00,000 is the taxable amount and uses the calculator's current default rate. Actual invoices can have different taxable components.

Important distinction

Tax rate and taxable base are separate inputs

A GST percentage alone does not determine the final tax amount. The taxable base to which that percentage is applied matters too.

Gold Ledger therefore lets you enter the taxable amount directly instead of silently assuming the exact composition of every jewellery invoice.

For an actual purchase, use the invoice, jeweller's breakdown and applicable tax rules to determine the correct taxable amount and rate.

FAQ

Gold GST questions

How does the Gold GST Calculator work?

Enter the taxable amount and the applicable GST rate. The calculator multiplies the taxable amount by the GST percentage and adds the result to the taxable amount.

What formula does the GST calculator use?

GST amount equals taxable amount multiplied by GST rate divided by 100. Total including GST equals taxable amount plus GST amount.

What is the default GST rate in this calculator?

Gold Ledger currently pre-fills 3% as its default gold calculator rate. You can change the rate to match the transaction you are estimating.

Can I enter a custom GST rate?

Yes. You can select one of the quick rate options or enter a custom percentage from 0% to 100%.

Does this calculator automatically determine the taxable value of jewellery?

No. This calculator applies the selected GST rate to the taxable amount you enter. Use the amount applicable to the transaction or invoice you are estimating.

Does the calculator include making charges automatically?

No. If making charges or other components form part of the taxable base for the transaction, calculate or identify the appropriate taxable amount before using this calculator.

Is the result an exact tax invoice?

No. The result is an estimate. Actual tax treatment and invoice totals can depend on transaction details, invoice composition and applicable tax rules.
